Hi, I really enjoyed the Candidate Forum last month. However, is it possible to hold them for two hours instead of one hour? It would give the candidates a bit more time each discussing their positions & qualifications. Thank you, Janet

Hi, Jane. Thanks for commenting. I’m not sure what forum you’re referring to. This is a nationally focused site, but we welcome links to local events if you have any.

And please share on Facebook and Bluesky, tagging our OperationSunshine accounts, as well.

I don’t know if this counts, but I had success outside a Minneapolis TESLA dealership when one of its customers came up to debate. (A friend and I were there to protest; my sign read, “Boycott Tesla.”) I was able to engage in a productive conversation with him and found these points of agreement: (1) All government agencies should be assessed and if fraud/waste is an issue, a SCALPEL should be used to resolve it, not a CHAINSAW. (2) Though we may disagree with the war between Russia and Ukraine, we should at least keep our word to Ukraine and continue providing them with weapons, training, and support. (3) One man shouldn’t be able to shut down entire government agencies without approval from Congress. My friend, on the other hand, engaged in insults, which got us nowhere. I know I didn’t turn a MAGA into a liberal, but I hope I at least made him think, “You know, the other side ain’t as crazy as I thought.”

Speaking clearly and cogently to anyone is to be supported and celebrated! It’s good practice for speaking to your local officials, too! Great job!
